City Supervisors Meeting 8 January 2021

The city supervisors met on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Clinton Fire Department. Those attending were D.L. Webb, Richard McCormac, and Jason Hayes.

Police Chief Jay Murdock had reported that several members of his department were out for various reasons, and that while the department was stretched thin, it was definitely “up and running.” He looked to be back at full force by the 23rd. He is considering closing the office due to recent COVID-19 spikes and conducting some business outside of the office.

Water department supervisor Will Hinchey said that the office of the water department was closed to the public, but the window was working as planned. He reported only one worker absent due to illness. Street department supervisor Charles Wilson reported that his crews were very busy on removing Christmas lights and clearing ditch debris. All of his crew remained healthy and working in separate areas to avoid unnecessary contact. He stated that he had plenty of PPE equipment and sanitizer.

School superintendent Jay Chalk had said that school was open and running well, and that baseball practice had begun with the basketball seasons continuing as well. Fire Chief D.L. Webb said that he was submitting a plan to the Arkansas Department of Health to allow city council meetings to continue in person at the airport. He was working to have the facility allocation for 50 people if necessary and believed that the square footage was sufficient. He also reported that the COVID-19 cases were trending up statewide. Van Buren County had 122 active cases, with 64 confirmed and 58 probable. He gave a run-down of the state’s plan for vaccines. He added that this process was proposed by Governor Hutchinson and supported by the Health Department. The distribution schedule will be posted on the state’s website and denote who will qualify for each particular phase.

The meeting concluded with the next meeting scheduled for Friday, January 22nd. As always, please stay safe, and thank you all for your patience. Please contact City Hall at 501-745-8110 or 501-253-0160 for any concerns of suggestions. Thank you again.
