City COVID-19 Response Meeting, July 14 2020


Governor’s mandate as of July 16, 2020

The city of Clinton supervisors’ meeting was held at the Clinton Fire Department Tuesday, July 14. Those in attendance were D.L. Webb, Craig Clute, Tim Clark, Richard McCormac, Charles Wilson, and John Willoughby.

Chief D.L. Webb reported that the current active cases of COVID-19 remained at two within Van Buren County. He stated that searching Arkansas Department of Health at [http://healthy.arkansas.gov] is an excellent source for current conditions within your area. Arkansas has had just under 30,000 cases with 323 deaths. Chief Webb also reported that the city’s supplies of sanitary spray and gloves remain well stocked. He also said that Van Buren County continues to remain healthy and thanked all of the efforts by our citizens and business owners.

Charles Wilson is still waiting to hear from the Arkansas Department of Health on the status of the biker rally “Rumble on the River” set to take place in late August. Peggy Eoff is also waiting on the department and believes that the decision for the Chuckwagon Races will be made by week’s end. Both applicants are confident in their safety plan and are optimistic for an approval by the state.

Craig Clute announced that the baseball season is going well with games held on Tuesdays and Fridays. He said that spectators are being very conscious of distancing procedures and that the concession stands are open at every city participating in the abbreviated season. He still plans to host the 10 & Under tournament at the end of July or early August.

Will Hinchey reported that the water department replaced an outdated fire hydrant and found a shutoff valve that had been covered up. He added an extra valve and reopened access to the old one. The department will no be able to make repairs downtown with no water restrictions upon School Hill.

Chief D.L. Webb ended the meeting by reporting that the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas Department of Health are still making the final decision on the process of the 20/21 school year. He hopes to have some specific directions by the end of the week. The Clinton School Board will meet Monday, July 20th and hopes to make some final decisions by then.

Chief John Willoughby said that his department continues to do its job and echoed Chief Webb’s gratitude for our citizens and business owners in helping us to remain healthy in Clinton, Arkansas.
