Clinton is a city in Van Buren County, Arkansas, United States. The city is the county seat of Van Buren County.   Clinton was founded in 1842 by George Counts  and was named for DeWitt Clinton, the New York governor who built the Erie Canal; he previously was also a U.S. Senator from New York.   The little village became Van Buren County's seat of justice in 1844. It has no connection whatsoever to Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States and an Arkansas governor before that, or to his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton, who also became a U.S. Senator from New York.  Clinton, nestled in an Ozark valley along U.S. 65, is a western gateway to Greers Ferry Lake. The town offers travel accommodations, a historic downtown, museum, parks and colorful festivals.
